La Luna

Susan Seddon Boulet (1941 - 1957) was a prolific Brazilian-born visionary artist of English descent whose themes ranged from portrayals of medieval figures and fantasy characters in her early work to Goddesses and Shaman figures. As a child, she was enthralled by images of fantasy and nature. In her beautiful painting, Selene, the ancient Greek Goddess of the Moon cradles her captive lover, Endymion.

The Queen of the Starlight Heavens was tasked with carrying the moon across the sky in a white chariot driven by her winged horses. Selene fell in love with a mortal, Endymion. She believed him to be so beautiful that she asked Endymion's father, Zeus, to grant him eternal youth so that he would never leave her. Zeus granted her wish and put him into an eternal sleep. Every night, Selene descended to the Earth and visited Endymion where he slept. Selene and Endymion had fifty daughters called the Menae.

This post is dedicated to the true Goddess of the Moon, Divine Mistress Eva Luna who is in the final stages of taming a longstanding personal project.

Here the wonderful American soprano, Renée Fleming sings the moving aria, Song to the Moon from the Czech opera, Rusalka by the composer, Antonin Dvorák.
